چکیده

The possibility that dihydrotestosterone (DHT) may be the intracellular active form of testosterone (Bruchovsky & Wilson, 1968) has led to many investigations of their effects on reproductive structures in both sexes (Gloyna & Wilson, 1969; Gonzalez-Diddi, Komisaruk & Beyer, 1972). In this communication, the synergistic effects of testosterone propionate (TP) and DHT on oestradiol stimulation of the immature chick oviduct are compared. Single-comb White Leghorn fowl, 12 to 15 days old at the start of the experiments, were used. Birds were the same age in any one experiment. The steroids (TP, DHT and oestradiol benzoate or dipropionate) were suspended in sesame oil and injected subcutaneously for 7 days. All animals, including the controls, received 0\m=.\1ml sesame oil/day. At autopsy, the combs and oviducts were quickly removed and weighed to the nearest mg. Comb data are presented to give an indication of the androgen activity.

The Effects of Regular Fluid Secretion from the Uterus of Laying Hens on the Longevity and Fertilization Ability of Fowl Sperm in the Oviduct

The aim of this study was to examine whether the secreted fluid from the uterus influences the survival and fertilization capacity of fowl sperm in the hen oviduct. Hens with either regular uterine fluid secretion or irregular uterine fluid secretion were artificially inseminated through the transfer of sperm into the uterus. Twenty-four hours after  artificial insemination, 3 hens with regular...

بررسی سطح تستوسترون و دی هیدروتستوسترون سرم در بیماران مبتلا به سبوره

Introduction: Seborrhea is a condition of sebaceous glands hyperactivity and increase in the secretion of sebum on head and face surface. Sebaceous glands hyperfunction causes oily and glassy appearance with large pores on the skin. The effect of androgens on providing seborrhea is controversial. Since sufficient and definite information about testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in seborrhic c...

Oestradiol synthesized by female neurons generates sex differences in neuritogenesis

Testosterone produced by the foetal testis is converted by male neurons to oestradiol, which masculinizes neuronal morphology. Female neurons are known to synthesize oestradiol in absence of exogenous testosterone. However, the role of neuronal oestradiol on the differentiation of foetal female neurons is unknown. Here we show that, due to endogenous neuronal oestradiol synthesis, female hippoc...

Microinjection of Dihydrotestosterone as a 5α-Reduced Metabolite of Testosterone into CA1 Region of Hippocampus Could Improve Spatial Learning in the Adult Male Rats

CA1 region of hippocampus has an important role in learning and memory. Previous reports have shown that androgens like testosterone and its metabolites are present in high concentration in CA1 region of hippocampus. Androgen receptors have also high density in this region. Therefore, it is suggested that neurohormones in CA1 have an important role in learning and memory. It is likely that...
